Lia's Capabilities
Physical Strength: Average for a particularly athletic teenager of her size/build when untransformed, stronger than should be possible for her size/build when transformed.
Physical Durability: Nothing to write home about when not transformed, resistant to physical harm when transformed (but not invulnerable).
Agility/Dexterity: High when not transformed, but it skyrockets when she is transformed.
Magical Strength: Fairly high for a human. And while she's unaware at this point, she's got a strong affinity for water-based magic through her mother being of House Raines.
Magical Resistance: Also fairly high! But also, skyrockets when she's transformed.

CANON INFORMATION

CHARACTER NAME: Cordelia "Lia" Brooks
CANON: Original Character
HISTORY: ---

STRENGTHS:
+ Determined: When presented with a goal or an objective to complete, make no mistake that Lia will see it through. Whatever she's doing may take a long time, but that's not something she'll let deter her. She just doesn't give up. Unless her attention is forcefully diverted or she discovers her original goal isn't in the best interest of the people around her (or there's a better away of going about the task), she'll work tirelessly towards that goal until she sees it completed. Well, there is one other potential distraction...
+ Altruistic: ... And that's the well-being of other people. Like mentioned before, if a goal isn't in the best interest of the people around her, she'll readily discard it for something that is. If she's given a choice between pursuing something she's been set on or setting it aside to help someone in greater need, she will almost always choose to help others. Improving things for people around her is something she cares a lot about, especially when those people are worse off than she is. While she doesn't do it for this reason, it's also a good way for her to end up in others' good graces. She just likes helping for the sake of helping.
+ Reliable: Lia does her best to be someone who can be counted on. When something needs to be taken care of, she will do it and make sure it's done well. While this is partly out of a need to be doing things and liking the sense of accomplishment that comes with seeing things running as they're supposed to, it's mostly out of a personal belief that, in general, people need someone they can depend on. ... Of course, the feeling of people seeing her as dependable is a nice perk, too, which is why she's happy doing what people might ask of her. Even if the work itself is total drudgery, if you ask Lia to do it, you can count on her to do it, no matter what.
FLAWS:
- Holds grudges: If someone's wronged Lia, she absolutely, 100% will not forget it. If the slight was serious enough, it could very well affect her ability to work in a team, because it'll very often color her judgment in dealing with the person who wronged her. It can make Lia very difficult to work with for them as well, if she'll even do so at all. She can persuaded to be something resembling cooperative depending on what's at risk, but she'll be quite vocal about her disdain for the situation.
- Prone to tunnel vision: When Lia has a goal in mind, there's a very unfortunate tendency for the vast majority of any other priorities to simply fall to the wayside. Little else matters except the completion of her goal. Which isn't too terrible if it's something that can be accomplished quickly, but when it's a long-term goal... well. When it's a long-term goal, anything else tends to suffer. School? Whatever, it's not like grades matter in the long run. Social life? Friends come and go, she should've expected they wouldn't stick around. Hobbies? Who has time for hobbies when there's work to do?
- Idealistic: While this can often also be considered a strength, this trait is one that certainly cuts both ways. In excess, idealism carries with it a certain amount of naivete. While it's not a bad thing that Lia generally believes the best of others, she often tends to take them at face value because of it. She's not so stubbornly idealistic that she'll refuse to see the truth when it's right in front of her face, but if she hasn't been given a clear reason to distrust someone or something, it can get her into huge trouble when her trust bites her in the ass.

CANON ABILITIES: Lia is, effectively, a magical girl, one that is driven by hope. It's not a picky kind of magic, and while many use their abilities for the good of others, there's just as many that don't.

Selfish hopes are a thing too, after all.

Still, wherever it comes from and wherever it's directed, hope is what runs the Mana Drive, letting Lia harness magic as easily as breathing, where most require complicated rituals and a great deal of focus. She's a little more robust than the average human, and can use a small amount of magical energy as a civilian, but the real impressive stuff happens when she transforms.

I Make This Look Good (transformation): Tapping into Mana Drive allows Lia to transform, flooding her body with magical power and grants her a special outfit. Think "magical girl meets fantasy gunslinger." Of course, the transformation's changes aren't just cosmetic, Lia's physical abilities are drastically increased, becoming that much tougher to kill, capable of logic-defying feats of physical prowess, and fully unlocking her magic capabilities. This isn't to say she's invincible by any means, though...

Unlocking her magic capabilities comes with a few neat tricks, some unique to herself and some that any could learn with time and training.

Bang Bang (magical weaponry): Weapon manifestation was originally the signature skill of Lia's veeeeery first predecessor, and it made such an impact that any who followed learned to pull it off themselves, though the effectiveness tends to vary from individual to individual. Basically, Lia can expend some magical energy to manifest weapons--she's never truly disarmed as long as her magic reserves don't run out. It allows for a certain degree of customization of whatever she summons up, and a type of fine-tuned control that she wouldn't have in a weapon with mundane origins; additionally, she can funnel more power into the weapon to make it more powerful. The weapon does require additional energy expended for "upkeep," but with Lia's natural talent for this aspect of her powers it's actually a pretty minuscule cost compared to what others might pay.

Unfortunately, she can only really keep herself armed this way. It's not impossible for her to arm someone else, but the drawbacks aren't really worth it in her opinion. In addition, despite the fact that she can manifest a wide variety of weapons, this doesn't come with knowledge on how to use said weapons. Basically, don't try to make her summon up something she has no training with, it'd just be embarrassing for everyone involved. And probably painful.

Lia's choice of weapon, incidentally, tends to be handguns, since she has experience with those outside of her transformed state.

This is Actually Kind of Ill-Advised (energy projection): This is just something Lia happens to be capable of rather than something she actually uses, but she can simply draw on the magic flowing through herself as a ball or ray of raw, unrestrained magic. Frankly, this is horribly inefficient and takes up way too much energy for Lia to bother with.

Finally, We Get to Something Unique to Her (teleportation): This is the ability inherent to Lia from when her magic first manifested. It's a simple enough ability, moving from one place to another without occupying the space in between. It takes more energy to teleport a longer distance, but most of the time, Lia doesn't even bother with that. While long-distance teleportation is quite useful for retreat, her preferred uses for her ability are in the thick of combat, using short-distance teleportation to attack from blind spots or unexpected angles, line up trick shots, and move out of harm's way, making her a tricky and annoying opponent to fight.

Aside from the energy requirements on the distance, her teleportation is also limited by her emotional state--if she's in too much shock or under too much stress, she's out of luck: her teleportation won't activate at all.

Needless to say, with more time and practice, she may find more uses for this particular ability, these are just the ones she's dedicated her time and attention to currently.

Don't Overdo It! (strain): Not necessarily an ability here but an important note all the same: even if Lia's magical energy is theoretically limitless, that doesn't mean she can keep fighting continuously. Excessive use of magic culminates into something referred to as Strain, where the entire system that keeps magic going through her body needs a rest. It starts off as fatigue and discomfort, but if the system keeps being pushed, it harms the individual's ability to use magic until they've recovered.

[Muffled IOSYS in the Distance] (Overdrive): Normally, the Mana Drive has limiters, safety measures that keep magic flow regulated to keep it from spiraling out of control. In moments of extreme duress, it's entirely possible to override these limits, and push the magic flow of the body far beyond its normal (safe) uses--some might even argue it's practically built in, considering that an outfit upgrade tends to accompany the power upgrade. It's a risky move, especially since the Mana Drive isn't made to keep up with this sort of use, and it's almost laughably easy to overexert oneself while fighting like this, or even cause long-term damage. The most extreme cases can cause complete magic burnout or can cost the user their life, but... well, that's just the cost of ignoring one's limits too long, isn't it?

... Thankfully, this isn't something Lia makes any use of. As far as she's concerned, the risks aren't worth it.

AU INFORMATION

AU CHARACTER NAME: Cordelia "Lia" Brooks
AGE: 16
GRADE: 10
AU BACKSTORY:
> Daughter of a mage who broke away from her too-restrictive family and a hunter, born in NYC
> Lived a fairly unremarkable (but happy) life until her abilities started emerging when she was twelve. It was a fairly slow process, and Lia was able to do it in relative safety thanks to her parents.
> Joined a group of Hunters called the Peacekeepers when she was thirteen, the ranks of the group mainly consisting of other Candles with the Mana Drive abilities, but not exclusively them. Her father was delighted, her mother was concerned.
> Spent three years happily working alongside the Peacekeepers, protecting her neighborhood (but sometimes the rest of the city as well) from threats from the Outlands, keeping her parents in the loop the entire while. During this time, she worked under the moniker "Snowdrop."
> She discovered that a group that was helping fund the Peacekeepers was working with a pack of daemons... and unfortunately for her, at least one party present was aware she'd made the discovery.
> A string of misfortune started to befall Lia, each situation more dangerous and frightening than the last. After it was starting to become clear that Lia was being specifically targeted with these situations, her parents agreed that it was time for Lia to go off to Daybreak for her own safety.

AU PERSONALITY DEVIATION: ---

RACE: Human
SECRET SOCIETY: Lia is a Candle who manifested powers four years prior. Temporarily, she was a member of a minor group of Hunters with people around her age that mostly operated at the street level. She wasn't a particularly high ranking member or anything, pretty middle of the pack all things considered, but she worked well in a team. After accidentally discovering information she wasn't supposed to know and having her life endangered by it, her supernaturally-aware and generally in the loop parents decided she would be safer at Daybreak.

POWERS: As a Candle, Lia manifested a linked set of abilities collectively referred to as mana drive, allegedly powered by hope and willpower and all those nice things. That part's not the important part. The key to these abilities of hers is effectively a magical girl-style transformation, that unlocks not only a neat new outfit, but the rest of the mana drive for Lia's use.

Abilities that Lia unlocks by transforming include enhanced strength, speed, and durability (not quite to the ridiculous degree as "canon,"--no defying logic here--but she's still quite tough to kill under these circumstances); weapon manifestation (expend magical energy to summon and maintain weapons and exhibit fine control over their properties, but she can only arm herself in such a way and it still doesn't grant her knowledge of how to wield something she doesn't know how to use. She can also "shatter" her weapons at will to inflict further damage), teleportation (more energy spent means longer distance, but she can't move over twelve feet at once this way. If Lia trains this ability enough, she'll be able to use it untransformed, but at a higher cost of energy), and the ability to "overclock" herself for a high-risk, short-term power-up that leaves her incredibly exhausted when it wears off.

Note: the transformation, physical enhancements, weapon manifestation, and power-up mode are abilities anyone with the mana drive ability set can have, the teleportation is specifically linked to Lia.

HOUSING: No preference!!

RP SAMPLE
INTERVIEW SAMPLE PROMPT

2. WHAT DO YOU HOPE TO ACHIEVE IN THE FUTURE?
Well, the goal's stopping Nightfall, right? Having plans beyond it would be nice, but I think we should be focusing on that first, especially since the results kind of determine where we'd be for those future achievements. [A pause.] That's what the question's asking, right?

6. WHAT COURSE WORK EXCITES YOU? WHY?
Anything that provides lots of hands-on work! There's something exciting about being able to experience things for yourself that you don't get just watching demonstrations or videos or reading from books...

7. WHAT COURSE WORK DO YOU DETEST MOST? WHY?
Essays... I can buckle down and get them done if I have to, but words are hard sometimes, especially when you need to string together a lot of them at once.

8. WHAT ACTIVITIES DO YOU PARTICIPATE IN OUTSIDE YOUR EDUCATION?
Well, before coming here, I was part of the Peacekeepers back home--we protected people from supernatural threats. Um, besides that... I was part of book club for a while? Does that count?

9. WHEN GIVEN FREE TIME, WHAT DO YOU DO WITH IT?
Well, video games and reading and spending time with my friends. Of course, that's assuming I have free time... Wh-which isn't to say I don't! I just take on more work than I have to a lot...

10. WHEN UNDER PRESSURE OF A TIGHT DEADLINE, HOW DO YOU RESPOND?
I buckle down and get it done, of course! If I have time between finishing and the deadline, then I go back and improve what's been done.

11. WHAT DO YOU EXPECT FROM YOUR PEERS?
If we're all working together on something, I want us focused on the same goal. If someone's distracted, that... really isn't going to do anyone any favors and make it that much harder to get things done.

12. WHEN WORKING IN A GROUP, HOW DO YOU ORGANIZE TO ACHIEVE YOUR ULTIMATE GOAL?
Well, I'm not really leader material... If whoever is the leader is taking suggestions, I'll make them if I think it's necessary. If I'm the leader... I guess I'd try to take everyone's thoughts into account. Just as long as we're all working together, we can achieve it in the end!

13. DO YOU FEEL YOU CAN RELY ON YOUR PEERS, OR DO YOU FEEL YOU MUST EXCEL ON YOUR OWN?
I'm used to working in a team, so being able to rely on my peers is a necessity!

15. WHAT ABOUT THE FUTURE DO YOU FEAR THE MOST?
Failure. We have to stop Nightfall, for the good of everyone... if we can't accomplish that, where will we be?
